Languages

They’re like different windows into different societies. Different concepts, slang, shorthands for the same everyday objects and events everyone around the globe experience. Different ways to internally think and converse inside your own head. I wanted to learn many of them. These are the languages I wish to become fluent in, no matter how long it takes. It was a goal to become a polyglot, however that really seems impossible at this age.

English – fluent. Was born into an English dominated country.
Japanese / 日本語 – low competency, but many hobbies have high involvement with Japan. It’s also mostly easier to dictate compared to English due to speech impediments and is naturally rhythmic. Whether I learn more grammatical structure through games or music, the goal is to keep progressing.
Latin / Latine – The basis for the most populous languages around the globe.
Spanish / Español – Not really interested in learning, but is also one of the most commonly spoken languages on the globe, so maybe that could change?

Here, I’ll log my progression.
2014 – The interest in the language started off with a friend promising to gift a Japanese-only video game console, meaning that I’d have to learn the language to properly navigate and fully enjoy the console. This is the time where I studied and learned most hiragana / katakana and very basic kanji, such as 私 / 人 / 乱 / 語, alongside many of the particles that go alongside them (わ, 々, の,を,と)and their many functions. This is still progressing, unfortunately.
2015 ~ 2018 – Not much progress was attained here, though I occasionally set my devices to different languages to familiarise myself. It’s still simple to navigate, and naturally, one would begin to associate different concepts with the different text.
2019 ~ Present – vocal songs have dominated most of my time during this period, including many Japanese songs. I have many Japanese songs memorised, but only understand a small portion of them natively. My proficiency is still low, but those songs taught a large portion of grammar and more vocabulary to me.
